For a woman who cannot get pregnant for any reason but still wants to have a genetically related baby, gestational surrogacy is the only option. Unlike traditional surrogacy in which a surrogate uses her own egg for fertilization, the egg and sperm of the intended parents can be used in gestational method. If your own egg cannot be used, an option is still open in egg donation. A donor egg and the prospective father’s sperm can then be used for fertilization.
Fertilization in this method is done in vitro in a lab environment. When the eggs are fertilized, the embryos are transferred into the uterus of the surrogate. Hence the carrier of the baby has no genetic bonding with the baby. On the other hand, if your egg and your partner’s sperm were used, the baby is 100 percent your genetically even if you didn’t give birth to the baby.
