Tubal ligation is performed on women in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy or when it is required due to a medical condition. This is achieved by tying of the fallopian tubes via a microsurgical procedure. Tubal ligation can be reversed when pregnancy is again desired. There are certain conditions under which the success rate of a tubal ligation reversal is enhanced.
To begin with, a tubal reversal will be attempted when ligation is the only reason for the infertility of the woman. The success rate for a tubal ligation reversal is enhanced under the following conditions: -
- Woman is under the age of 30. She and her husband are both healthy.
- The patient has at least 2 inches of tube. This can be verified pathologically.
- The patient has had babies with her present husband
- Higher sperm counts are observed during repeated tests
- The patient is not over or under weight
