Treatment overview on In Vitro fertilization or IVF

IVF or in vitro fertilization is a major treatment in resolving infertility problems, especially when other methods (usually the lesser expensive ones) like the assistive reproductive technology have failed. In vitro diagnostics suggest that a successful infertility treatment requires essentially- healthy ova, availability of a sperm that is able to fertilize and the availability of a uterus that can sustain a pregnancy.

The IVF process

IVF is an infertility treatment process that involves the fertilization of egg cells by sperm ‘in vitro’ i.e. outside the womb. The ovulatory process is controlled hormonally by removing the eggs (ova) from the female’s ovaries and letting their fertilization occur by a sperm in a fluid medium. The zygote or the fertilized egg is then transferred on to the patient’s uterus to facilitate a successful pregnancy.

The IVF process can be summarized systematically into the following five stages:

1.Ovarian stimulation.
2.Egg retrieval.
3.Fertilization.
4.Selection (of the most suitable embryo)
5.Embryo transfer.

Tubal Reversal Treatment Major Factors Affecting Its Success

Tubal ligation is one of the established ways of birth control. In this the fallopian tubes of the woman are tied so as to make her temporarily infertile by preventing the eggs from reaching her uterus. This operation performed under general anesthesia takes about thirty minutes.

In order to make the woman fertile again tubal reversal treatment is resorted to. This involves a surgical operation, under the bikini line, involving microsurgery under general anesthesia. The operation lasts for a couple of hours.

The success of this method of infertility treatment depends on a number of factors. These are -

- The woman’s age. It has been observed that the success rate improves for women less than 35 years.
- Whether the fallopian tubes are healthy.
- The quality of the man’s sperms.

The success rate of tubal reversal treatment is around 70%.

Selecting the Best Place for an Infertility Treatment

Infertility treatment is a complex subject that involves a lot of medical, ethical, financial, legal, and emotional issues. A specialist infertility treatment center would render support and solution in terms to the mental and physical state of the being of the individual.

Because most couples who seek treatment for infertility are already in an emotionally fragile state, they need to choose a place with good infertility specialists who can advise them on all aspects of treatment, apart from the medical outlook. This includes counseling on resources such as funding, legal help, post treatment care, and even psychiatric assessment.

The best infertility specialists have your welfare in mind. They will not insist that you start with invasive procedures such as IVF in a hurry.

Most infertility clinics maintain an impossible silence over the success rate of their treatments. You need to know that at best, only 35% couples have a successful pregnancy when assisted by reproductive clinics. If you are promised a higher rate of success, you need to do a reality check to identity the right infertility treatment center.

Tubal Ligation Reversal - Major Factors Affecting Its Success

Tubal ligation is performed on women in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy or when it is required due to a medical condition. This is achieved by tying of the fallopian tubes via a microsurgical procedure. Tubal ligation can be reversed when pregnancy is again desired. There are certain conditions under which the success rate of a tubal ligation reversal is enhanced.

To begin with, a tubal reversal will be attempted when ligation is the only reason for the infertility of the woman. The success rate for a tubal ligation reversal is enhanced under the following conditions: -

- Woman is under the age of 30. She and her husband are both healthy.
- The patient has at least 2 inches of tube. This can be verified pathologically.
- The patient has had babies with her present husband
- Higher sperm counts are observed during repeated tests
- The patient is not over or under weight
