Baby Gender Selection - Balance Your Family

Most parents would not complain whether they had a boy or girl baby. But privately, a lot of parents admit that they would have "liked better to have a little girl/little boy". If you have more than one child of the same gender, you may want to balance your family by being given the choice of selecting baby gender.

Any gender selection method relies on the following principle: Parents contribute one sex chromosome to the baby. A girl receives an X chromosome from both parents (making it two X chromosomes). A boy receives an X (from mother) and a Y chromosome (from father). If the chromosomes are selected artificially, that is gender selection.

There are ethical issues in gender selection; similar to the questions raised on "designer babies". However, gender selection is a good option if it is not misused. Some parents also opt for gender selection if there is a family history of inherited gender specific disorders such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and hemophilia.
